學生事務及輔導處

Welcome to the Thai-Chinese International School Student Services site. Using the American School Counseling Association's (ASCA) school counselor competenciesand ethical standards as our guideline,  we aim to meet all of our student's academic, social/emotional, college/university, and career readiness needs.

Additionally, Kru Rung and Mr. Tony, our Thai and Chinese Department heads respectively, work with students on issues related to these languages as well as helping students who wish to apply to Thai and Chinese universities.

Our school day is from 7:30am-3:10pm.  Parents and students are welcome to make an appointment to meet with a member of Student Services any time.  Please contact any one of us directly, or contact Ms. Pure, our Student Services secretary, who can set up an appointment for you as well.

ACADEMIC

Our department works with students to not only ensure they are on the proper path towards graduation, but also to encourage them to take as challenging a curriculum as possible.  Our school implements the Advanced Placement (AP) program, giving our high school students opportunities to take a rigorous course load throughout high school.  Additionally, TCIS offers a wide-range of electives, giving all students opportunities to explore a wide variety of interests.  We offer electives in art, music, foreign language, drama, physical education, as well as career and technical education courses.  For more details, please take a look at our Course Catalog.

During the later months of the school year, our counselors will work with students to arrange their schedules for the following school year.  It is during this time that counselors meet with students individually to ensure we are meeting the diverse needs of our students.  This way, we can tailor a schedule with their specific interests and goals in mind.

Additionally, our counselors will meet with students throughout the year to monitor progress regarding grades and other academic concerns.

PERSONAL/SOCIAL

Our counselors support students with their personal and social development.  Weincorporate research-based counseling theories such as Person-Centered Therapy, Solution Focused Counseling, and Reality Therapy to support the developmental needs of our students. Confidentiality is a top priority amongst our department, as it ensures that our students have a safe place to share any concerns with us.

In addition, classroom guidance lessons are provided for all of our K-8 students in the form of Second Step guidance lessons.  Topics include issues related to empathy, problem solving, bullying prevention, emotion management, goal setting, among others.

We provide individual counseling for students on issues related to friendships, grief and loss, self-image/self-esteem, self-efficacy, motivation, bullying, proper social media usage, and more.  We also provide small group counseling as needed.

Students are encouraged to meet with a counselor any time they have any issues or concerns, and need to speak with an adult in a confidential environment.

COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY

TCIS fosters a college going culture and we are proud of our 100% university acceptance rate.  We display many posters, banners, and pennants throughout our offices and encourage all of the TCIS staff to proudly represent their universities on the last Friday of each month by wearing clothing from their schools.  Our students apply to and attend universities from many countries around the world including Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

Because our students will end up majoring in a wide variety of fields, we take an individualized approach in helping students select "best fit" schools.  We encourage our students to apply to universities in three tiers ("safety", "target", and "reach") so that they have a wide variety of university options available for them and their families.

We work with all high school students, starting in Grade 9 to share high school expectations and encourage personal and academic growth.  We provide advisory lessons that cover a wide-range of topics from improving study strategies to getting involved with community service and other extracurricular activities as early as possible.  Kru Rung and Mr. Tony are especially helpful when working with our students looking to attend Thai and/or Taiwanese universities.

Mr. Rob's College Prep class provides our grade 12 students with a great opportunity to meet with university representatives (we will have over 100 schoolsfrom across the world on campus during the 2017-18 school year), receiveguidance on creating a competitive and comprehensive college application, and prepare for a successful transition from high school to college.

Additionally, we use the most up to date college application tools such as,Naviance, the Common Application, and the Coalition application to assist students with the university application process.

CAREER

Students complete a variety of assessments in high school such as interest inventories, skills assessments, leadership style identification, emotional intelligence, learning style preferences, and personality type inventories.  We also utilize standardized test data from MAP, PSAT, SAT, and AP tests in order to a help students narrow down which careers may interest them or be a good potential fit for their personality, strengths, and interests.
